Platform Compatibility

ISPHIDIUS uses the WebHID API, which allows a web page to communicate directly with USB HID devices from inside the browser. Because WebHID support varies between platforms and browsers, the table below shows where ISPHIDIUS works.

Platform Browser Status
Windows Chrome / Edge ✅ Supported
Linux Chrome / Edge ✅ Supported
macOS Chrome / Edge ✅ Supported
ChromeOS (Chromebook) Chrome ✅ Supported
Android Chrome ❌ Not supported
iPhone Any browser ❌ Not supported
iPad Any browser ❌ Not supported

Note: On iOS and iPadOS all browsers use the Safari WebKit engine, which currently does not implement the WebHID API.

For the best experience use:

  • Chrome or Edge
  • Desktop or laptop computer
  • Chromebook

No drivers or additional software are required.

Simply connect the ISPHIDIUS programmer via USB, open the WebHID interface page, and press Connect Device.

Why Mobile Devices Are Not Supported

Mobile browsers currently restrict access to low-level USB interfaces for security reasons. As a result, APIs such as WebHID are only available on desktop-class browsers.

Quick Tip

If the Connect Device button does not work, check that:

  • you are using Chrome or Edge
  • you are running on a desktop computer or Chromebook
  • the ISPHIDIUS programmer is connected via USB

The ISPHIDIUS project is a work in progress. Some features may be missing or not working as expected. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to improve it.
